Review: The Green Teen

Posted by admin on May 22, 2009

The Green Teen: The Eco-Friendly Teen’s Guide to Saving the Planet is written by Jenn Savedge who is a wealth of green information.

The Green Teen is named “the eco-friendly teen’s guide to saving the planet” and wow is it ever! Jenn has a way of writing that is informative but yet simple so going green and being green isn’t difficult or stressful. This book is an easy enjoyable read (which teens – as well as adults – will appreciate), making green living a pleasure not seem like a task.

Teens are fortunate to have this resource available to them. With the information contained in The Green Teen, teens and anyone who reads this book will be able to make a change in the world by helping the environment. A variety of topics are discussed, from “greening yourself”, “green home”, “green school” and “green world”. There is a wealth of information jam packed in this 183 page book.

Fortunately our children are being brought up in a time where environmental issues are being publicized and many are trying to salvage the planet, make changes and do whatever they can to save the planet…The Green Teen will make this task even easier!

No one person has to do it all but if each one of us follow our heart and our own inclinations we will find the small things that we can do to create a sustainable future and a healthy environment. – John Denver

The John Denver quote says it all…each teen, each person who reads The Green Teen will be able to find small things that they can do to help.

Sage Hill Farms

Today’s review is on Sage Hill Farms.

I’ve personally known Bea Kunz for few years and can honestly say her herbs are AWESOME!
Bea and her husband Michael own Sage Hill Farms which is their sustainable herb farm located in TN.

Their mission statement is:
* To produce chemical free herbs by using organic, approved products to enrich and sustain our soil.

* Through composting and cover cropping, nature can and does supply us with needed elements to meet our goals.

* Our aim is to leave a better legacy for the next and all future generations to build on.

I’ve ordered a variety of herbs and mixes from them over the years.
They’re all excellent.

The English Thyme is outstanding.
When you open the tin bag you can smell the fragrant aroma from the Thyme.
I use the Thyme in a lot of the meals I prepare.

The Cajun Blend is made up of thyme, paprika, onion zest, garlic zest,
all spice, cayenne, parsley and my son loves this used in his meals.

Other favs of ours are:
Italian Blend
Poultry Blend (daughter loves this on many of the chicken entrees I make for her)
Basil
I love the Salad Mix too!

So, all in all if you’re looking for excellent quality herbs along with outstanding owners and fast shipping you have to try Sage Hill Farms

p.s. They offer teas too, but nobody here drinks tea so I can’t review that for you. You’ll have to order and try it for yourself.

Product Review: zBoards

Posted by admin on

zBoards… I just love these products from waybasics.com

Quoted from waybasics.com
zBoards are created through a patented, proprietary process that’s revolutionized paperboard manufacturing. Developing this process took more than 10 years, and it combines techniques of plywood craftsmanship, paperboard composition, and furniture manufacturing. It leads to extremely sturdy yet lightweight boards that hold up to plenty of use.

What are zBoards made of?

Glad you asked – we’re proud to say that zBoards are made from 99% post-consumer waste paper. That means recycled paper that’s already been used, so we’re not chopping down any more trees to create zBoards. Also, we’re saving the enormous amounts of water that are used to make virgin paper. Our purpose was to eliminate as much environmental impact as possible and create a sustainable product. When you’re done with your Way Basics furniture (after long, long use), you can recycle it again by simply putting it in your recycling bin. The remaining 1% of the non-post-consumer material we use is the veneer paper in which the zBoard edges are wrapped. This is also completely recyclable.

The only “down side” for me, there are no local locations to me so there is shipping which isn’t exactly green but I can offset in other ways, so the advantages of using these is greater than the shipping effects.

My daughter has them in her room in black (can’t include a pic of that since it’s all her stuff) but here are a few pictures of different products I’ve bought from them.

They’re so easy to assemble. Remove the “film” over the adhesive and put together.
Woola, you’re done! It’s that easy!
They’re versatile too.

I use one cube as an “end table” which as you can see has my books, etc. on/in it.

I use another by the front door for the kids to put their shoes (note most the shoes in this pic are my daughters–go figure! I own 2 pairs of shoes…both lower left…yoga sandles and sneakers!)
Note the LED light there. It has an automatic on/off light sensor so it goes on when it’s dark and off when it’s light out automatically. (pretty cool!) No more need to leave a light on so you can see when you come in your door! This works perfectly.

zboards

and we have lots of these shelves (and yes, lots of dvd’s too!)
Note: the warmer on the shelf, it’s great with water & essential oils in it!

zboards

We have others as well that hold all of my daughter’s books, etc. but can’t take a pic of that one right now either as it’s blocked by all the materials I’m using to build Edward a new rabbit house.

But you get the idea:
these are versatile
come in different colors & shapes
easy to assemble
and eco friendly!

You can get yours at WayBasics.com and the customer service ROCKS!
Irene and the others there are attentive to everything! First big company that I’ve ENJOYED purchasing from in a long time! They’re on phone and quick on emails too. Wonderful all the way around!
